Hair transplants in Sweden
Akacia Medical offers hair transplants at our clinic in Stockholm in Sweden as well as in Istanbul. We have extensive experience in transplanting hair and beards and all our procedures are covered by a warranty. Here you can read more about the different hair transplant procedures we offer.
In this procedure the doctor extracts follicular units (hair follicles) with the help of a special needle. No scalpels are used with this method. Each follicular unit contains about 1-4 hairs. Before the operation the area where the hair follicles will be taken from is shaved. This area is in the back of the head where the hair is not affected by hair loss. The FUE method is performed under local anesthesia and the hair follicles are transplanted one at a time to the hairless area.
There are many advantages with FUE
-
- The small holes that are left where the hair follicles are extracted will heal within a week. It is possible to transplant up to 3,500 hair follicles or, in other words, 7,000 – 9,000 hairs in one day with the FUE method.
‘
- If there is not enough hair in the donor area the follicular units can be taken from other parts of the body (chest, back, stomach, leg, etc.) and be placed on the head. Therefore you do not need to have a lot of hair left on your head to be a good candidate for a hair transplant.
When the FUE method is performed on women the hair on the back of the head is shaved to make the donor area visible. Then, the hair follicles are transplanted one by one. Because it is not always possible to shave all the hair on a woman’s head, it may not always be possible to transplant as many hair follicles as for men.
Who is a suitable candidate for a hair transplant?
Most men and women who suffer from hereditary hair loss with baldness or deep cranes can expect good results from a hair transplant. The patient should have a sufficiently good sensor area in the back of the head to extract hair follicles, but we can also extract hair follicles from other donor areas such as chest etc.
Hair transplant is the only permanent method to get further hair growth! In order to get a good result, the patient should have a good donor area. The number of hair follicles that can be picked depends on the density of the donor area. The more hair follicles transplanted, the better and more natural results.
Beard transplants with the FUE method
With the FUE method, the hair follicles are extracted from the back of the head. They are then laid out and counted. We then mark the face and draw in the area where the hair follicles will be transplanted to. We locally anesthetize the marked area of the face to open pores. Thereafter we place the hair follicles in their new positions. After a beard transplant the patient is restricted to a diet of soup during the first few days. The reason for this is that the hair follicles otherwise can be displaced by chewing food. We usually transplant up to 3,500 hair follicles in one procedure.
DHI (Direct Hair Implant)
For the Direct Hair Implant method we do not need to shave the hair. We extract the hair follicles from the back of the head and place them in their new place directly without leaving them to wait outside the body. This usually gives a better result than with the FUE method. Because the hair follicles are not left outside the body longer than necessary, almost all hair follicles survive. Since the follicles are extracted one by one without shaving the hair, the procedure is more time consuming and therefore more costly. Usually we can transplant up to 1,500 follicles per session.
BHT (Body Hair Transplant)
If the donor area does not contain enough hair, body hair can be used instead. Hair can be taken from the chest and other hair covered areas of the body, and transferred to the hairless area on the head with the FUE method. The characteristics of body hair is a bit different from the hair on the head since the scalp has more blood circulation with a better nutritional capacity. This is not always the preferred method for hair transplants, but it is an option if the donor area does not contain enough hairs.
