What is PRP?
PRP treatment for hair (Platelet Rich Plasma) is a method used primarily to treat hair and skin. Many choose PRP as an effective way to counter hair loss. It can also help hair follicles recover and promote hair growth in patients who have undergone a hair transplant.
If you feel your hair has become thinner or that you are losing more hair than usual, PRP may be the solution for you. Thanks to our long experience with PRP treatments, we can offer you reassurance as a patient. Because the treatment uses the body's own cells and contains no drugs or chemicals, it is completely natural and free from side effects.

Important information about PRP tube brands
Choosing the right PRP tube brand can make a major difference to the treatment result. An independent study compared several PRP producers and showed clear differences. Arthrex was the clear winner and has been scientifically shown to generate more growth factors than other brands, from 2 to 7 times more.
At our clinic, we use PRP tubes from Arthrex and RegenLab, known for their high quality. Many clinics in Sweden use several tubes during a PRP treatment. Their tubes do not have the same quality as Arthrex and RegenLab, which is why up to seven tubes may be needed to reach the same amount of growth factors that a single tube from Arthrex or RegenLab can provide.

Follow a patient through a PRP treatment
Watch a patient go through a PRP treatment with us and get a clearer picture of how the treatment is performed in practice.
How a PRP treatment works
We begin by taking a blood sample from the patient. The blood is centrifuged to separate the plasma with a high concentration of platelets from the red blood cells. The plasma then contains 3 to 5 times more platelets than normal blood.
Before the treatment, we numb your scalp to reduce any discomfort. We then inject the platelet-rich plasma into the scalp using small needle pricks. The platelets release growth factors that increase blood circulation and cell growth, helping weakened hair follicles recover. The treatment is also effective in providing extra nourishment to transplanted hair follicles.

PRP can help with hair loss
PRP strengthens hair follicles, improves blood circulation and promotes cell growth, resulting in stronger, denser and healthier hair. PRP was originally used in surgery and sports medicine, but in recent years it has become increasingly popular for treatments of hair and skin. In the media, the treatment is sometimes referred to as a "vampire treatment."
PRP for traction alopecia (damage from extensions)
In traction alopecia, follicles are often still active but stressed by long-term pulling. After the cause—such as tight styling, extensions or poor application—is removed, PRP can help improve the environment around the follicles and support regrowth in damaged areas.
We assess how permanent the damage is. If follicles are heavily scarred or inactive, hair transplantation may be more appropriate instead or as a complement.

Who is PRP suitable for?
If your hair has started to thin but the hair follicles are still intact, PRP can help restore hair thickness and reduce hair loss. The treatment works best for women and younger men who have recently noticed hair loss. Although the result varies from person to person, it may help regardless of age.
PRP can treat
- •Hair loss: An initial course of three treatments is usually recommended, spaced a few weeks apart. Many people notice reduced hair loss after 3 to 4 weeks, and after 3 to 6 months, visible hair growth is often seen.
- •Alopecia areata: PRP has shown success in the treatment of alopecia areata, an autoimmune condition that causes patchy hair loss.
- •Scalp problems: PRP can also relieve chronic irritation and itching in the scalp.
Treatment areas
PRP can be applied to all or parts of the scalp, as well as to eyebrows and beard. The treatment can also be used on other parts of the body, such as the face, neck, décolletage, and hands.
