Results & aftercare - timeline after hair transplant

Practical advice in the right order, with extra focus on sleep: how to protect grafts during the first days and when you can sleep normally again.

Sleep after a procedure is one of the most common questions we receive. The right sleeping position reduces the risk of grafts rubbing against the pillow and can also help with swelling.

Sleeping safely after hair transplant - timeline

Sleeping after hair transplant: day by day

During the first days, the grafts are sensitive. The goal is to avoid pressure and rubbing against the recipient area while keeping the head in a position that reduces swelling.

Days 1-4

  • Sleep semi-upright at about a 45 degree angle
  • Use a neck pillow for support
  • Avoid letting the recipient area touch the pillow or headboard

Days 5-10

  • Gradually lower the head elevation if swelling has gone down
  • Prefer sleeping on your back; avoid lying directly on the transplanted area
  • Build pillow barriers if you turn in your sleep

After day 10

  • You can sleep completely normally again
  • Scabs have been massaged away and the grafts are stable
  • Side/stomach sleeping is usually fine if healing has been uncomplicated

Why this matters
